Whether high school or college graduation is the goal, online education is possible for anyone. As long as a computer with broad-band Internet access is available, classes can be taken in the comfort of home, a library, or the home of a friend.

No longer does the traditional classroom scenario of lecture, note taking, completing worksheets, and taking tests need to be. On-line courses provide interaction with audio, visual, and hands-on technology. Both basic core educational classes and speciality areas are available.

Already, students being home-schooled have access to a high quality education whether or not they are living with a qualified educator. Many districts have home school liaisons that supervise students who are taking on-line courses from home. Credits are given through the high school, and a diploma is the result.

More and more post-secondary institutions are providing the convenience of flexible programming at lower costs. Students can take courses that combine on-line technology with regular classroom attendance, integrating audio and visual technology in a practical, hands-on way.

Synchronous classes enable the student to participate in real time with the regular classroom. The computer screen shows what is happening, and the student participates with peers and instructors, and assignments are completed at the same time as students in the regular class. The benefit is that the student can be elsewhere while learning.

Asynchronous classes are recorded, and then watched at a later time. Students are able to have full-time jobs, spend time with their families, and still attend college. The classes are there whenever the student wants to work on them. The ability to communicate with class members and the instructor is enabled through web-based communication systems.

To find out if the on-line courses are legitimate in comparison with real university or college courses, check the accreditation of theinstitution. It should be regionally and nationally accredited, with degree programs at Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate levels. Courses should be taught both in house and on-line.

Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs should be available if the university is real, not just certificates of completion. Check for job placement statistics. Find out whether experts in the chosen career field consider the university to be valid.

On-line education is no longer a thing of the future. It is here and now. Courses are more affordable than ever before. Broad-band Internet access is in nearly every home, on every computer. All it takes to learn is personal desire.
